About This Game Welcomed by the fluttering of cherry blossom, the main character, Brian, starts a new high school life in Japan. Brian soon starts to get along with two girls in the same class after they start to talk to him. With their help, Brian gradually learns Japanese culture and customs. He deepens his friendships with each girl as they teach him how to study and spend time together after school. He gradually is able to survive through the commuter rush, May sickness, the rainy season, and more as he experiences Japanese culture for the first time. Summer After a particularly unpleasant rainy season, summer vacation starts at last. Brian gets to experience a lot of fun things, including a beach trip with the girls in their swimsuits and summer festivals in yukata. He also experiences popular Japanese summer activities, such as suikawari (watermelon splitting) and summer festival food stalls. And what he looks forward to more than anything is the most popular otaku event in the world, held twice a year– Comic Market. He goes to the venue with his heart racing with excitement, having long dreamt of experiencing his first Comiket. What he sees there is……a battlefield, just as rumored!? Fall The destination of the annual school trip is Japan’s most famous ancient city, Kyoto. The three enjoy sightseeing among the old streets and alleys, and experience the traditional culture of Japan to the fullest. Back at school, Brian gets to experience an actual cultural festival, which he has seen a lot in anime. He is ecstatic when he gets to help run the maid cafe booth. He also enjoys cosplaying for Halloween, which has rapidly developed in Japan in the last few years. With the beautiful colors of autumn in Japan, he deepens his understanding of Japanese culture further. Winter After experiencing a Japanese-style Christmas party, Winter Comic Market has arrived! This time, he doesn’t just go, but actually participates as a circle!? With the coming of the new year, he goes to experience Hatsumode. Setsubun and Valentine’s Day arrive and makes him start to realize that soon it will be time to say good bye. Just like when he first met her, cherry blossom buds are about to bloom. What enters Brian’s mind is her smile. I did not encounter any bugs in my time with the game. You can play this game in english(text) and japanese(sound &text) (Showing both text languages at the same time is also possible), which I guess is interesting for those who are looking to learn japanese and can use this as practice for reading and hearing comprehension.Another neat thing: When playing you will notice that certain special words are blue. Clicking on these will give you a more thorough explanation. There are choices to make in this game, but they aren't really impactful as there isn't really anaything at stake here (there is no drama :), so just go for what you want.. beware play this game at your own risk the waifu overload is there two waifu is a lot. Just a warning, Japanese School Life is not a dating simulator, but it is a good visual novel to learn about various aspects of Japanese culture. Given that, the gameplay itself isn't the best since it's basically like reading a book about Japanese culture. I will say that the graphics for this game was great, switching between multiple styles of art and having lively character models. The sound and music was alright. I really liked the Japanese voice acting, and even though it didn't stand out to me, they did a very good job with it. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase, but you might want to spend your money on other things on Steam if you're looking for a dating simulator. I liked the concept the developers took to incorporate learning about Japanese culture into a visual novel. It was an interesting twist to a more slice of life visual novel, but I personally would have wanted more story between the characters than facts on Japanese culture, mainly due to the fact that I already knew most of the information from being a former avid anime watcher. It's great for people who are just starting to get into anime though. Also, Choco best girl in this visual novel.. Full Review here =^-^= : http://pewpewcat.com/japanese-school-life-indie-game-review/Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an exchange student in Japan? When I was a teen, I was obsessed with Japanese culture and this would have been a dream come true! Now there’s a new game out there that can help you live out that fantasy while learning about Japanese culture called Japanese School Life!Japanese School Life is a visual novel that follows a foreign exchange student named Brian. Brian is in love with the Otaku culture and wanted to be immersed in it. Thus, he took an adventure and became a foreign exchange student. However, he didn’t realize how much he would learn from this experience.Plus, Brian didn’t expect to make friends right away. Luckily two of the girls in his class, Chiyoko and Arisa decided to make friends with him. From there, they take Brian to all the places he wants to explore and teaches him about Japanese lifestyle and culture.I admit, back in the day I was totally a weeaboo. I watched any anime that I could get my hands on and read any manga I had access to. Even though I got older and fell more into comic books, I still have always had a curiosity for Japanese culture. I still really want to go to Japan, especially since I’ve never been there.Playing Japanese School Life really re-lit that fire in me to start saving up enough money to go to Japan. It’s fun learning about the different festivals and foods they enjoy. The fact that they can get so many different things at a convenience store blows my mind. When I think of convenience store, I think of a gas station where the hot dogs have been on the rollers for 10+ hours. Yet that’s all I know. However, I didn’t realize that the Japanese also eat Zongzi, aka sticky rice dumplings in America. Which are some of my most favorite Chinese traditional foods, and are made for celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival. So, when Chiyoko and Arisa were explaining where Zongzi came from, I had already heard the story from my other half. I thought it was pretty cool they threw that in there. So, if you’re wanting to learn more about Japan in the form of a Anime-like visual novel, Japanese School Life would be fun for you! Check it out!. would recommend if you like some anime tiddies. A wonderful educational experience with a 100% guarantee of 'hnnnggggghhh' The writing of the characters is well done and the mix between Japanese events, traditions and holidays, along with how the characters go about explaining/celebrating them was handled quite well. The romance elements were nice and subtle to where it didn't feel like some over dramatized fantasy world and more like a natural group of friends. Although I must agree with some of the other reviews, your character, Brian, does go a bit overboard from time to time; I've found myself on more than a few occasions going 'Come on man, get it together!' All said, this has a strong recommendation from me if you need something to casually pass time and want to learn some new things about Japan!. Short review:Japanese School Life is a cute, fun distraction and surprisingly informative. Buy it if you're interested in learning about detailed aspects of Japanese culture and daily life that you won't find in many other games.Long review:Japanese School Life is — shockingly! — a visual novel focusing on the Japanese school life of an exchange student arriving from a foreign country. Using this central conceipt, the game explains various aspects of daily life as seen from the perspective of a student in Japan, in a style that is half entertainment, half cultural guidebook. As a concept, the game is executed well. It includes detailed descriptions about Japanese culture and lifestyle that are not necessarily apparent even to people who have played many Japanese VNs or experienced other forms of Japanese media like anime and manga. The art is good, the characters are fun and well-voiced, and the music is non-intrusive. The quality of the English writing is exceptionally high for a VN voiced in Japanese.Japanese School Life is very similar to Tokyo School Life and Go! Go! Nippon! and as such it's hard not to compare the three. All are high quality and enjoyable. Japanese School Life lacks a bit in length and depth when compared to Tokyo School Life, and is a bit less organized as a guidebook than Go! Go! Nippon! However, Japanese School Life combines some of both worlds and is clearly intended to be a simple, relaxing experience, something at which it succeeds. If you're searching for maximum value, pick it up on sale, but I didn't feel cheated at full price. In all, Japanese School Life is an enjoyable distraction that will inform about Japanese student life even as it entertains. If you're looking for deep story and characterizations, however, it's best to look elsewhere.. The story was fantastic I really hope you guys/girls make a Japanese College School Life or something equivilant
